Boys'  Program Information - Spring 2009

Note to parents of new players / beginners:
Lacrosse is still a very new sport to the youth of RI.  Therefore your child is never too old to start playing.  This is not like other longer established youth sports where it is difficult for a child to join in their teens if they have never played before because the majority of the existing players have developed superior skills.  Lacrosse is a sport where the majority of kids who play in high school pick up the lacrosse stick for the first time as a freshman in high school.  The typical youth team in the older two divisions has 30%+ of new players on each teams' roster.  Your child will not be alone as the only "newbie" on their team.

Also, girls lacrosse is a non-contact sport and that is why only goggles and a mouth guard are required.  Although boys lacrosse is a contact sport it is not a violent sport.  There are no "take out - knock someone on their butt" checks.  When played correctly both boys' and girls' lacrosse are finesse games of passing, catching, and shooting.  There is zero contact in the Instructional Divisions.
